Australia 4.0 Discussions - 2024
Go back to: Australia 4.0 Initiative
In 2024, Australia 4.0 continues with a series of targeted, hybrid, roundtable discussions building on the focus areas identified during the 2023 programme and consolidated in the first Australia 4.0 Communiqué.
During each of these workshops, we will focus through the following lenses:
- Consumer
- ICT
- Innovation
- Australian
Australia 4.0 specifically has a focus on the intersection of enabling consumer agency, the role of ICT in the transition to Net Zero and
the need for innovation.
“No Decarbonisation without Digitisation”
“The new grid offers significant potential for the utilisation of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and large language models. This is the stuff that brings the real unimaginable efficiencies. This is the stuff that really can make low-cost energy for people as these technologies could be used for dynamic pricing, faster troubleshooting and response, and better self-service for customers."
Prof Neil Horricks (UQ, now Race2030 CRC) Session 1 on 6-Jul-2023
Roundtable #1 - Creating an Open Data Architecture
The first in the 2024 series focused on ”creating an open data architecture" and highlighted a major new initiative by CSIRO in this space – the Smart Energy Mission-in-development.
Key questions covered:
- What is the impact on the consumer?
- What is the role of data?
- How do we build trust?

Roundtable #2 - Energy & Digital Skills
In 2023, Australia 4.0 identified that one of the major challenges facing the nation in transitioning to renewable energy are the forecast workforce and skill shortages, especially in higher order engineering and computing skills, and the availability of these workers in remote or rural communities. Hosted by Engineers Australia, this session highlighted approaches to improving the workforce skills necessary for the future renewable grid.

Roundtable #3 - Energy Information Decoded: AI enabled Energy modelling for Consumer Agency
Discussion of major opportunities for accelerating the transition to renewable electricity through the use of advanced ICT solutions,
such as Digital Twins and AI. By using data collated from sources that are trusted and secure, these technologies create the potential for
a consumer-centric grid, which can empower consumers in their energy choices and usage.
