Australia 4.0 Open Data Roundtable (In-person)
Creating an Open Data Architecture for Energy
First Australia 4.0 national roundtable for 2024.
In 2023, the Pearcey Foundation facilitated a series of events exploring the implications for Australia of the transition to Net Zero. This series ran under the banner of “Australia 4.0” and included the voices of regulators, innovators, major players in the energy sector, government and academia. Australia 4.0 is focussed on the intersection of enabling consumer agency, the role of ICT in the transition to Net Zero, and the need for Australian innovation.
The goal of Australia 4.0 in 2023 was to identify a set of commonly agreed challenges and proposed ways to address them from a digital and data perspective. The summary of the 2023 efforts were released in a Communiqué in May 2024.
In 2024, Australia 4.0 continues with targeted roundtable discussions on topics aimed at driving next gen ICT solutions to support the transition. During each of these workshops, we will focus through the following lenses:
Consumer - ICT - Innovation - Australian
The first in the 2024 series will focus on “Creating an Open Data Architecture for Energy” and highlight a major collaborative research program – Smart Energy.
In 2024 the Australia 4.0 events will be hybrid events comprising in person speakers, roundtable participants and audience accompanied by live streaming to a national audience.
Format of 2024 Australia 4.0 workshops:
- Roundtable of 20 attendees, selected from business, academia and government, with an emphasis on energy and ICT business representation.
- Other attendees invited as an audience of ~20 in-person and nationally online.
- Keynote presentation (first session is by CSIRO Smart Energy team).
- Q&A from Roundtable participants specific to keynote address.
- Open discussion with Roundtable of challenges and opportunities (in first session this will be on implementing an open data architecture for the benefit of energy consumers).
- Q&A from audience, both in-person and online.
- Includes a light lunch
Australia needs a consistent approach to get to Net Zero as the current debate is fractured, especially in the use of digital technology in our infrastructure and services. Working with partners such as CSIRO, Australia 4.0 is creating a constructive space for this important dialogue.
