Federal Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic to Give the 2022 Pearcey Oration

The Pearcey Foundation has announced that this year’s Pearcey Oration will be given by The Honourable Ed Husic MP, Federal Minister for Industry and Science. The Oration will feature at a dinner in Melbourne on Wednesday, 21 September 2022 held with the support of Digital Innovation Futures Victoria, an initiative of the State Government of Victoria. The Pearcey Foundation Victorian Entrepreneur of the Year will also be presented at the event.

“We are delighted to have Minister Husic presenting this year’s Oration. Each year, the Pearcey Oration is a great opportunity to provide true thought leadership and to spark a wider conversation and debate about the role technology should be playing in our community, and how important it is to encourage and promote innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Wayne Fitzsimmons, chair, Pearcey Foundation.

Minister Husic said: “The Pearcey Foundation plays an important role helping us conceive our future knowing the lessons of our past. I’m honoured to be presenting this year’s Oration.”

“I am looking forward to honouring Trevor Pearcey’s legacy and outlining ways we can rise to the challenges and opportunities ahead for the nation in realising our potential in critical technologies such as AI, robotics and quantum computing.”

The Pearcey Oration is presented each year by an eminent expert, giving them an opportunity to explore, in depth, critical contemporary issues arising from the introduction and adoption of new and advanced technologies into our society. Previous Pearcey Orators have included Jeremy Hirschhorn, Second Commissioner, Client Engagement at the ATO; Roger Taylor, Chair of the UK Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation, and Paul Shetler, technologist, entrepreneur and government advisor. The first Pearcey Oration was delivered in 2008 by the CSIRO’s Dr Terry Cutler.
