PR2009: 2009 ACT Young ICT Professional Recognised
Chief Minister and Minister for Business and Economic Development Jon Stanhope has congratulated Michael McGoogan on being named the winner of the 2009ACTPearcey Award for Young Achievers.
The Award is sponsored by the ACT Government and recognises the achievements of individuals in the early stages of their information and communication technology (ICT) career.
This year's recipient is Michael McGoogan who has grown his grown his company AussieHQ to become the 5th largest web service provider in Australia. Michael McGoogan was 16 years old when he founded his business providing basic website and email hosting services. Through organic growth and acquisitions, AussieHQ has expanded and currently has a customer base in excess of 20,000. The firm has been connecting well over 1,000 new business clients per month and its revenue will exceed $4million in the 2009 financial year.
"Recognising and rewarding the achievements of up and coming ICT professionals creates a culture of creativity and innovation within the field and places us on a very sound footing for the future," Mr Stanhope said.
"Canberra is an ICT leader in Australia with the nation's highest intensity of ICT related employment and boasting internationally renowned ICT research organisations, multinational companies and many ICT Small and Medium Enterprises many of who have very strong export capabilities.
"The ACT Government remains engaged in many areas of the local ICT industry to ensure that the sector and related industries continue to thrive and create employment and economic opportunities for Canberrans," said Mr Stanhope.
Michael McGoogan will represent the ACT at the 2010 National Pearcey Awards.
