2005 NSW Award
The 2005 New South Wales Pearcey Award was presented to James Dalziel by The Hon. John Della Bosca, Minister for Commerce. The presentation was made at the Pearcey Cocktail Function at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo. The Award forms part of the ICT Outlook Forum initiated by CSIRO, DSTO, NICTA and the ICT Council of CRC's.
The NSW Pearcey Award was established in 1999 by the Pearcey Foundation to celebrate high achievers in the industry and attract and encourage young Australians into the ICT industry.
Previous NSW award winners have included Dr Hugh Durrant-Whyte a robotics expert, Dr Ted Dunstone a biometrics expert and Alex Hartman a young ICT entrepreneur.
James Dalziel
James Dalziel is a young information and communications technology entrepreneur.
NSW Minister for Commerce, John Della Bosca, presented Mr Dalziel with the award and congratulated him on his achievements.
"This award recognises individuals early in their career who demonstrate innovative and entrepreneurial achievement, and are making a contribution to ICT research and development in NSW" Mr Della Bosca said.
Working with a business partner, Mr Dalziel leveraged technology from the University of Sydney to create one of Australia's most successful e-learning businesses, MCQ International, an award winning exporter, BRW Fast 100 and Deloitte Asia Pacific Fast 500 participant.
Recently Mr Dalziel also founded the Macquarie University E-Learning Centre of Excellence (MELCOE) and a related start-up company, LAMS International.
MELCOE works to foster the adoption of the next generation of distributed e-learning and information systems. LAMS International pioneers the commercial adoption of open source technologies in the educational sector, and has become a leading exporter in its first year of operation.
Mr Della Bosca said that by hard work, intelligence and dedication Mr Dalziel had made a major contribution to NSW's ICT industry.
"He has commercialised ICT research and development providing confidence to investors and leadership to the ICT community" Mr Della Bosca said.
Silvia Pfieffer receives 2005 Highly Commended Award
Silvia Pfieffer receives the 2005 Highly Commended Award by NSW Minister for Commerce, John Della Bosca
NSW Minister for Commerce, John Della Bosca praised Silvia Pfeiffer who manages the multimedia science research area of CSIRO.
Ms Pfeiffer was Highly Commended for her pioneering research in web-based technologies and building a strong track record of commercial engagement with the media industry.
Mr Della Bosca said he was delighted Mr Dalziel and Ms Pfeiffer had been recognised for their important contributions to the future development of the NSW ICT industry.
